

Jehan Patterson

Who am i?
Jehan Patterson is an award winning Writer/Director based in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. A graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, His films have been screened nationally and internationally, often exploring themes of injustice and the erasure faced by oppressed communities while humanizing individuals from marginalized groups. He was also mentored by casting director Tracy “Twinkie” Bird, known for casting Fruitvale Station and Notorious, and was trained in directing by Robert Townsed and Barnett Kellman during his time at USC.
Notable projects include Connecting Families, a nationally broadcast PSA/short film addressing exorbitant prison phone call costs, made in collaboration with the Nate Parkr Foundation with the help of his mentor Nate Parker, which was screened for Congress; Many Thousands Lost, his USC thesis film following the coming-of-age of a child learning that her father has been sentenced to death, which is currently on the American and international film festival circuit; and Summertime Blue in E Minor, a short film about a formerly incarcerated saxophone player that premiered on the Aspire TV network in December 2024.
